INTERN ARCHITECT or ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGIST

 – Term Position in Ottawa, Ontario

Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) is a Northern-based architecture and engineering firm with a focus on community design work, especially for First Nation and Inuit communities, throughout the Far North. Our head office is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, with satellite offices in Whitehorse and Ottawa.  

We have a term position available for an Intern Architect in our Ottawa office, beginning in Summer 2021.

 

Projects include mid- to large-scale civic, educational, institutional, and residential facilities, as well as smaller-scale commercial projects. The successful candidate must have strong technical capabilities, leadership and project management skills, and be able to work well in a team environment.

Duties:

  • Assist with production of architectural construction drawings including site plans, plans, elevations, sections and details

  • Develop digital models and renderings

  • Provide support to the project team lead on various activities such as coordination of sub-consultants, preparation of documents, attendance at meetings and site reviews

  • Undertake project research including cultural, site, and material investigations

  • At TAG, work occasionally includes travel to remote communities in the arctic and sub-arctic. Although this is less likely to be required at the present time due to COVID-19, candidate should be comfortable with the possibility of travel in small aircraft

Credentials and Skills:

  • Graduate from an accredited Master of Architecture program in Canada or equivalent

  • Demonstrate a value of quality design work and ability to think outside of the box

  • Skilled production of presentation & working drawings

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English

  • Familiarity with Revit is required; the ideal candidate will have substantial Revit experience

  • Familiarity using 3D modeling programs is required; Sketchup experience is an asset

 

Length of Contract:

Candidate will begin in Summer 2021. This is a full time (37.5 hr/week), one-year contract position based in Ottawa, ON.

COVID-19 Considerations:

At the present moment, the successful candidate will be expected to work from home. TAG will provide a computer and other workstation requirements. It is intended that, pending changes to social distancing requirements / public health recommendations, the candidate will eventually work in TAG’s physical office in Ottawa.
