ELECTRICAL ENGINEER
Yellowknife, Whitehorse, or Ottawa
TAG Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team of architects and engineers, and to lead our four-person electrical department. This position can be located in Yellowknife, Whitehorse, or Ottawa, depending on the preference of the candidate.
Electrical design work will include lighting, power, emergency systems, and communications systems for northern buildings. Other tasks will include evaluation, selection, and sizing of electrical engineered systems and provision of design calculations and analysis. The candidate will work alongside an integrated design team that includes in-house architectural and mechanical professionals, as well as other consultants.
Projects range in size from small-scale residential and commercial work through to large-scale educational, institutional and civic facilities. The successful candidate will have proven experience in the field of building design and construction, strong interpersonal skills, experience managing a team, and experience coordinating with other design professionals. Robust knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code is a requirement, alongside familiarity with typical Canadian construction practices and electrical design for Canadian buildings.
TAG Engineering is an arm of Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) and primarily serves the architectural offices of TAG. In-person as well as on-line coordination with architects, engineers, and clients will be frequent.
TAG will cover the costs of relocating if the applicant is interested in working at our Whitehorse or Yellowknife offices. As part of your application, please indicate which office(s) interest you.

Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) is a Northern based architecture firm with a focus on community design work, especially First Nation and Inuit communities, throughout the North. Our head office is located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, with satellite offices in Whitehorse and Ottawa.
In 2018, TAG expanded to include a mechanical and electrical engineering division with a focus on integrated design, coordination, energy efficiency and working for the best interests of our clients.
Duties:

Work closely with TAG Engineering’s staff in Yellowknife, NT, Whitehorse, YT, and Ottawa, ON.

Act as senior electrical engineer for the electrical division of TAG Engineering.

Oversee electrical staff consisting of a professional engineer, an engineer-in-training and an electrical technologist.

Oversee electrical design and production of electrical documentation. Provide stamp for electrical documents.

Oversee, the completion of design reports, building or system assessment reports, and site review reports

Conduct site visits during construction, providing photos and site review reports satisfying the review requirements of various projects, and/or collecting information for design purposes

Prioritize time to manage the demands of multiple overlapping project deadlines

Coordinate with other disciplines including project managers, architects, interior designers, structural engineers, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, contractors, and other consultants

Work will include occasional travel to remote communities in the arctic and sub-arctic; candidate should be comfortable with travel in small airplanes.

Drafting in AutoCAD and Revit. If not familiar with Revit, the applicant must be willing to learn Revit and be prepared to work in Revit projects.
Credentials and Skills:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering

Licensed Professional Engineer with P. Eng. designation from one of Canada’s provinces or territories. Minimum of 5 years of Canadian experience.

Knowledge of applicable codes and standards including Canadian Electrical Code, National Building Code of Canada, C282 Emergency Generators, NFPA20 Fire Pumps, CAN/ULC S-524 Fire Alarms, etc.

Experience in working independently to manage deadlines and coordinate with team members

Skilled production of presentation & working drawings.

Ability to integrate design elements with architectural, civil, structural, and mechanical disciplines.

Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to prepare and present accurate, professionally written reports and recommendations.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills; fluent in written and spoken English.

Knowledge and comfort using AutoCAD, AGi32 Software, Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft Office programs is required

Revit experience is strongly preferred
Length of Contract:
Candidate will begin as soon as possible in 2024. This is a full time (37.5 hr/week), permanent position located in one of our three offices.
Moving Costs:
A moving expense stipend will be provided by TAG if relocation is required.
Salary and Benefits:
Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with experience. Full benefits package is available. Paid vacation is included, plus approximately two weeks over the winter holidays.
