K’ahsho Got’ine Trades Centre

Fort Good Hope, Northwest Territories
In construction

Since 2022, TAG has been working with the community of Fort Good Hope to develop the K’ahsho Got’ine Trades Centre, an industrial facility where new modular homes can be built year-round by community members.

The building will be owned and operated by Ne’Rahten Development Ltd, which is the business arm of Yamoga Land Corporation. The goal of the project is for residents of Fort Good Hope and the Sahtú to receive training and employment while delivering new homes for the region – northern homes built by northern people.

The project builds on the TAG team’s research on the intertwined systemic issues of high rates of unsuitable housing and unemployment in northern communities.

The facility is intended to enable the community to further develop a local skilled labour force, create new permanent jobs, and establish the capacity for a local organization to deliver new housing units within the Sahtu Region of the NWT for the first time in decades.

Once completed, the project is expected to provide pathways to improve local housing conditions and strengthen the local skilled labour pool. More broadly, however, the aim of the project is to kickstart an economy around housing and construction, creating conditions of economic empowerment and supporting self‐determination in housing.
