Liard Highway Welcome Pavilion
Liard Highway, NWT-BC Border
Completed in 2020
Intended to welcome travelers as they enter the Dehcho region of NWT from British Columbia, this rest site combines parking, seating, a picnic area and an informational kiosk & restroom. A sheltered seating area in the kiosk will contain a map of the area and informative graphics about the Dehcho and the nearby community of Fort Liard.
Because of its remote location, the kiosk is designed to be weather-resistant and low-maintenance: the steel and stone structure will never require re-painting or refinishing, and the restroom self-ventilates. Stones in the gabion walls were sourced from the South Slave region.
