Job opening:

PROJECT ARCHITECT

Yellowknife, Northwest Territories

Taylor Architecture Group (TAG) is a Northern-based architecture and engineering firm with a focus on community design work, especially for First Nation and Inuit communities, throughout the Far North.

We have an immediate opening for a Project Architect in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

TAG’s head office has been located in Yellowknife for the past 40 years. The firm started from the ground up, as a small, process-driven practice aiming to provide high-quality design services specifically for northern, remote, Indigenous communities. As our experience and expertise has grown over the years, our team has expanded to about thirty multidisciplinary staff, including architects, engineers, interior designers, and R&D personnel. We continue to pursue an iterative and exploratory design ethic while collaborating daily across three offices in Yellowknife, Whitehorse, and Ottawa.

The team at TAG takes a socially-minded approach to architecture. We leverage our projects to provide the best possible outcomes for the communities we serve. Depending on the nature of the project, this has meant – for example – working directly with communities to develop culturally sensitive designs, or coordinating project delivery methods to support local employment, or building in training opportunities throughout the process, or applying present-day technologies in ways that celebrate and support traditional practices.

The ideal candidate will be socially conscious, open-minded, and willing to learn from our diverse range of clients – while also being enthusiastic about the challenge of designing projects for some of the most logistically and climatically extreme environments on earth.

With integrated mechanical and electrical engineering, we operate as a cohesive team. We focus on creating positive working relationships & mentorship opportunities, and maintaining open lines of communication. The successful candidate will join an established network of designers and will contribute management/ mentorship skills to support the success of ongoing projects. Ideally, this person will be enthusiastic about teamwork and will foster positive relations with client groups, while being technically proficient in their field.

Project work ranges through large-scale civic, educational, and institutional facilities, as well as smaller-scale commercial or residential projects. TAG’s projects are located in communities across the three northern territories. Travel on small aircraft and remote winter roads will be a requirement of the position.
