This building is designed to provide comfortable independent living units where Vuntut Gwitchin First Nation Elders can feel at home and age safely within their own community.

Nine independent living units are arranged around a shared common area. Each unit faces out towards the water, with large views of the surrounding natural landscape. Moveable furniture has been designed so that the units can be customized and re-configured according to each resident’s preference.

Although each residence has its own kitchen, the circular communal area is also equipped for food preparation and dining, so that residents can gather to share meals with each other as well as with their families, guests and visitors. The common area is equipped with a woodstove, by request of the elders,  and has clerestory windows through which natural lighting will enter the room throughout the seasons, as well as expansive views outwards towards the water.
